In German there a few sounds that you don't have in English. One of them is the "ch"-sound. When you say a "ch"-sound correctly, the air has to pass over your tongue.
column 1: guttural "ch" sound after a, o, u and au
column 2: palatal "ch" sound after i, ie, e
column 3: there are a few exceptions when the "ch" is pronounced as a hard "k"
